arc ebook provided by publisher through Netgalley

From New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery comes the story of secret desires finally fulfilled…

After a family tragedy, former football hero Jack McGarry keeps the world at arm's length—a challenge now that his PR firm has moved to neighborly Fool's Gold, California.

Larissa Owens knows where she stands—Jack sees her as just another one of the guys. No matter what her heart wishes, Jack's her boss, not her boyfriend. But then Larissa's big secret is revealed…by her mother!

When Jack discovers the truth about Larissa's feelings, her touch suddenly becomes tantalizing, and he's not sure he wants to resist. But if he gives in to desire, heartache is sure to follow. Friendship or true love—will Jack go for the ultimate play?

I think the blurb above pretty much tells you what this story is about. It's not one of my favorite's in the series. I always loved Jack in other books but he is really all over the place in this story and then he is a supreme jerk to put it lightly.  While he get's punched in the face at least twice in this book i'm surprised it didn't happen more often. I get that Jack had issues from his childhood but holy heck that doesn't give you license to be cruel to your friends when you get cornered. He was a little over the top towards the end. Larissa on the other hand has her own childhood issues to deal with and she lets those influence her  beyond what seems normal. While both characters are very giving people they are both hiding from life. They are actually enablers for each other when i think about it. The relationship between Jack and Larissa is kind of interesting. Both saying they were just friends on the outside looking in anyone could see they were more than that. Thankfully there is a HEA at the end of this story which YES includes some groveling. It seemed like he was forgiven by her friends and Larissa way to easy. I like the books but it was just a little to all over the place for me at times. Good but not one i would want to read again.
